It is hard to make a budget for all expenses because there will always be irregular expenses or even unexpected expenses. These things do not have to ruin your budget though. You can plan for these unexpected or irregular expenses and be as prepared as you can be.
The first thing to do to help manage these expenses is to list out any irregular or unexpected expenses that you believe will come up for the year. Things like car insurance, car maintenance, house repairs, new glasses, and so on all fall under this category. You may not know an exact cost, but you can make an estimate. Write down the total estimate for all of these things.
Once you have the total for as many of these irregular or unexpected expenses you can make a plan for how you want to handle these. One way is to make a goal to save this amount in a short period of time. It may take you 2-3 months, but you’ll have that total for the rest of the year. Another option is to divide that total by 12 and save that much for these expenses throughout the year.
You may feel like the first year you do this that you are still struggling with these irregular and unexpected expenses, but in the second year, you’ll get a hang of it. Having an emergency fund can also help you feel like you can stick to your budget and handle these expenses.
